Ayurvedic Sleep Elixir

A nourishing, calming drink to take at night 60-30 minutes before bed to gain more restful, undisturbed and refreshing sleep. This tonic will reduce your stress levels to allow you to switch off completely.

This specific tonic helps to calm the Vata Dosha. When Vata is out of balance, it creates overactivity of the mind and body which prevent us from falling to sleep or getting to a state of deep sleep.

What this means in modern terminology, is this overactivity of the nervous system creates disturbances in the natural sleep/wake cycle. There is also an overproduction of the stress hormones (cortisol, adrenaline, etc.) that block the production of the sleep neurotransmitters (melatonin).

This tonic supports the production and release of all the wonderful sleep neurotransmitters that promote deep sleep and shifts the mind and body to a state of peace and calm.

It’s so simple to make this tonic.

Bring to the boil:

  • ½ cup of unhomogenised cows milk (or Almond milk)
  • ½ cup of water
  • ¼ tsp cardamom powder
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon powder
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
  • pinch of black pepper

After its boiled, remove from heat and add:

  • ½ tsp ghee
  • 2 strands of saffron
  • ¼ tsp Ashwagandha powder (Optional)

Stir well, drink warm.
