This is a classic Ayurvedic recipe to promote a good night’s sleep. These ingredients are powerful for reducing the qualities of Vata, which contribute to the cause of insomnia and a restless night’s sleep.

Vata is responsible for movement, activity, and thinking process. So when out of balance or enhanced, it creates a restless mind and body, anxiety and overactive thoughts. The causes for a poor nights sleep.


  • 1 cup milk (organic, unhomogenised) or almond milk or ½ of each!
  • 1 tablespoon chopped medjool dates
  • ½ tsp saffron
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • ¼ tsp cardamom powder
  • Fresh grated Nutmeg for serving (optional)


Blend all ingredients together. Pour into a pot and heat on stove and bring to a gentle boil.

Stir and serve. Dust with freshly grated nutmeg – to taste.

You can add a little raw honey or pure maple syrup just before serving.
