Natural sugar scrubs are fun, simple, and inexpensive to make. They are totally natural which means they are free of nasty chemicals. All beauty products should be able to be eaten. Your skin is the largest organ of your body and whatever you apply to your skin ultimately gets absorbed into your bloodstream. So if you cant eat it, why put it on your skin?!

This recipe is so simple to make, and most ingredients can be found in your kitchen cupboard. Not only will your skin be healthy from using this, it will feel smooth and smell delicious.

  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup black sesame oil
  • 1 orange zest
  • 1 lime zest
  • ½ cup fresh squeezed orange juice
  • A few drops of essential oil

  • Combine all ingredients in a small jar. Stir to mix ingredients together.

  • Apply to damp skin and rub in circular motions to exfoliate any dead skin.
  • Rinse off with warm water in the shower and dry off.

Brown Sugar is a beautiful topical exfoliant as the particles are small and gentle to remove away dead skin cells and reveal the healthy skin underneath. Brown sugar granules are small enough to produce an effect, but not rough or harsh on the skin like other exfoliants such as husks or salt that can cause microscopic tears in the skin. Brown sugar is also a lot more hydrating to the skin compared to salt which is very drying strips the skin of its natural oils.

The addition of black sesame oil acts as a natural moisturiser to soften the skin and produce a healthy glow. You will find there is no need to moisturise after using this scrub.

Orange juice and zest contain amazing essential oils that uplift the mood and vitalise the senses. Topically they also help to fight cellulite, and as they are high in Vitamin C they promote the formation of collagen which enhances skin tone and integrity. It will create glowing, radiant skin.
